The Blue Jays are on a 5 Game Losing Streak.

The Blue Jays have lost five in a row and some of our worst fears from the 2023 and 2024 seasons are coming to light.

After winning the first game at home vs Seattle and improving their record to 12-8 the Blue Jays are on a 5 game losing skid and now sit at 12-13. The Blue Jays have an off day to recover before heading to the Bronx for a three game set against the Yankees and hopefully put this streak behind them.

You can’t win games if you can’t score, it’s hard to score without home runs, the Jays struggled to hit home runs in 2023 and 2024 they struggled to win. This trend has continued into 2025, and again they’ve struggled to score and win consistently.

Will the Jays struggles continue or will they be able to turn it around, start hitting the longball, and start winning?

It’s no question we’re still early into the season, but it’s not just this season the Jays had this problem. They were 16th in the MLB with 188 homers in 2023, 26th with 156 in 2024, and now sit 29th in the MLB with 13 in 2025. This issue has been apparent and only getting worse over the last 3 seasons. Yes the Jays were a playoff team in 2023, however they were carried by an amazing pitching staff with just a 3.78 team ERA. That type of success isn’t sustainable, and it showed, with the Jays losing two games against the Twins only scoring one run.

This brand of baseball is unacceptable. The Jays won’t consistently win games and their games are boring to watch. It feels as if a 3 run deficit in the first inning means the game is over. In the 2021 and 2022 seasons this wasn't the case, they hit 262 and 200 home runs respectively and they won 91 and 92 games respectively. These Jays teams were extremely fun to watch and no deficit felt too big. Do the Blue Jays have the same personnel in 2025 as they did in 21 and 22? No. But the hitters are trying to hit the ball the opposite way and hit singles. That won’t win you games at the MLB level.

The Blue Jays have the personnel to hit Home Runs. Vladimir Guerrero Jr and Anthony Santander are both capable of 40+. George Springer can hit 25+ fairly easily, Bo should be at 20+, Varsho can come back and add some solid power. The Jays need to focus on pulling the ball in the air.

This pitching staff is too good to waste on a team that can’t hit. The bullpen looks elite and the rotation looks closer to 2023 than 2024. Bassit, Berrios, Francis, and Gausman have all been amazing. The Jays are hopeful Scherzer can return and Manoah’s return is expected in August. Even though the pitching staff is great, it can’t carry you all the way to October and even if it does it won’t carry you through October.

If the Blue Jays want to be a playoff team they need to start hitting home runs. Postseason teams hit home runs, world series champions hit home runs. If they don’t start hitting home runs they’ll be back at where they were in 2024.
